The hydroelectric power plant in Hatta has reached the halfway mark in its completion process.
As announced by Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), the project has reached 52.61% completion, and the construction of the upper dam has been finished.
The 100% renewable hydroelectric power plant will be an energy storage facility, with an efficiency of 78.9%, that uses the water stored in the upper dam, and converts it into kinetic energy.
Kinetic energy then rotates the turbines, and converts mechanical energy to electrical energy, which is sent to DEWA’s grid within 90 seconds, in response to demand.
The first of its kind in the GCC, the plant has a life span of 80 years and is expected to be completed by 2024.
