The Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA) has granted Starlink Satellite Communications LLC a 10-year General Space Services License to operate satellite internet services across the United Arab Emirates.
The regulatory approval authorises the SpaceX subsidiary to establish, operate, and manage a public satellite telecommunications network. The decision introduces a space-based layer to the country’s digital infrastructure, complementing existing terrestrial fibre-optic and 5G networks operated by local telecommunication providers.
For residents and businesses across the UAE, the development offers practical connectivity solutions. While urban areas rely primarily on high-speed fibre connections, Starlink provides high-speed, low-latency broadband to off-grid locations, including desert farms, remote construction sites, offshore oil platforms, and private yachts in Gulf waters.
Consumer packages start at Dhs 230 per month for Residential Lite and Dhs 300 per month for Standard Residential service. Hardware kits range from Dhs 1,099 for the Mini Kit to Dhs 1,465 for the Standard setup.
The license covers business, government, aviation, and maritime operations, providing back-up internet redundancy and uninterrupted remote connectivity across key economic sectors.
Services delivered via Starlink remain subject to local telecommunications frameworks, including standard content filtering, spectrum coordination, and VoIP regulatory guidelines.
