The Supreme Committee for Urban Planning, in coordination with the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Dubai Municipality, has launched a modernised visual identity and addressing system for streets and residential districts across Dubai.
Rolled out across 186 areas divided into 19 sectors, the phased project runs through 2030. The initial phase begins in late 2026 with over 2,000 new signs across Za'abeel 1, Za'abeel 2, Nad Al Sheba, Al Khawaneej 1, and Nazwa.
The new system incorporates five distinct background colours reflecting local geographic characteristics:
- Blue: Coastal districts located near the sea.
- Gold: Inland desert environments.
- Custom palettes: Specific urban, commercial, and residential sectors.
Additionally, standard house number plates are being replaced with harmonised units integrating the property's Makani code and an interactive QR code. Scanning the sign provides instantaneous information regarding sector identity, historical origins of street names, and nearby points of interest.
The system will eventually encompass bus stops, smart application maps, and municipal boundary boards.
