The number of journeys made through Smart Car rental services run by Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has doubled. In the first seven months of this year, 377,873 journeys were completed compared to 185,501 journeys recorded during the same period last year, a growth of 103%.
According to Adel Shakri, Director of Planning and Business Development, Public Transport Agency, RTA, the popularity of this smart service "highlights the appeal of this service to the public as it saves time and effort as well as the hassles of finding a quick transit mode."
Any motorist who has signed up for Udrive or eKar smart apps can rent these cars parked at 45 locations across Dubai for up to six hours with no human intervention at all.
The rental of 50 fils per minute includes the benefits of free fuel from EPPCO and ADNOC petrol stations, free insurance, and free RTA parking, and if you return the car at the same point where you picked it up, the rental charges come down to 40 fils per minute.
The smart system easily allows the renter to start and lock-up the vehicle through the app. The bill for each journey is automatically forwarded to the user through the app.
