The UAE has reaffirmed its leadership in fighting viral hepatitis, with a national programme focused on prevention, early detection, and treatment, placing the country among the region’s most proactive health systems.
Announced by the Ministry of Health and Prevention on World Hepatitis Day 2025, observed annually on 28 July, the campaign aligns with global efforts to eliminate hepatitis as a public health threat by 2030. This year’s theme, 'Hepatitis: Let’s Break It Down', emphasises community awareness, screening, and coordinated healthcare delivery.
The UAE’s hepatitis strategy is built on four pillars, including awareness-building in the community, collaboration across health sectors, evidence-based health policies, and preventive care. With 98% vaccination coverage for hepatitis B, thanks to its inclusion in the national immunisation programme since 1991, the UAE sets a regional benchmark in disease prevention.
Screenings are now part of routine medical fitness checks, and the updated Al Hosn app helps track immunisation records for families and individuals.
