Over 450,000 motorists have benefitted from the latest traffic fine settlement initiative launched in February this year by Dubai Police.
Under the new initiative, motorists get 25% discount on their traffic fines if they don’t get a traffic ticket in three months, 50% discount after six months, 75% discounts after nine months and 100% discount on traffic fines if they don’t get a traffic ticket for a year.
Announcing the first quarter results, Dubai Police released the data quoting that a total of 457,154 drivers have received 25% off their traffic fines.
The initiative was launched in support of the Year of Tolerance.
According to the government news agency WAM, the discount is being offered to reduce the financial burden on motorists and also encourage them to adhere to traffic regulations.
Major General Mohammed Saif Al Zafeen, Assistant Commander-in-Chief For Operation, Dubai Police highlighted a decline in traffic accidents, injuries and deaths between February and May compared to the same period last year.
Dubai registered 43,947 accidents during the initiative’s first quarter while the number of traffic accidents during the same period last year amounted to 48,247, and the total number of deaths amounted to 20, compared to 29 in 2018, and the vehicles seized decreased by 19%.
