The boys rugby team from JESS Dubai finished in the runner-up position at the world’s largest school rugby U14 tournament, the Rosslyn Park 7s.
The tournament saw a total of 196 teams take part, of which only one team was from an international school, JESS Dubai, with all remaining teams from the UK.
Representing the UAE, the team nailed all the competitions across the tournament and narrowly lost to Harrow School for Boys in the final bringing home the runners-up title.
Mike Wernham, the team coach says, “The training for the team has been intense as we wanted to ensure they experienced all the potential conditions they would encounter. This training included cold weather training at Ski Dubai, playing on a waterlogged Dubai pitch, catching and throwing rugby balls soaked in washing up liquid and playing as 7s in a 10s competition. It was the training, the tenacity and the fearless team spirit of these young men that have earned them this amazing accolade.”
The team is now preparing to compete in the U16 Rosslyn Park tournament in two years’ time aiming to bring the winner's trophy home!
