Anti-begging campaign launched ahead of Ramadan

Dubai Police have launched an anti-begging campaign ahead of Ramadan, it was announced this week.

The Police will be patrolling places of worship, residential areas, markets, Ramadan tents, car parks. Major-General Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, assistant commander-in-chief of the Dubai Police for criminal investigation, said 1,021 beggars were arrested last year, of which 641 were detained while begging during Ramadan.

He urged public to call 901 or 050-2106969 to report beggars.

In addition, Mohammed Mehdi Al Suwaidi of the Department of Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities, Dubai, has said that there are 17 charitable societies that help beggars, and asked people to call 800600.
