Dubai based Emirates Airlines, has introduced an amenity kit designed specifically for its Premium Economy and Economy class passengers. Travellers embarking on long-haul flights worldwide in these classes will receive these kits, which have been developed in collaboration with United for Wildlife. These kits aim to raise awareness about eight of the planet's most endangered species.
Emirates' latest amenity kit collection underscores the airline's enduring collaboration with United for Wildlife and its dedication to promoting awareness about endangered species and combatting the illegal trade of wildlife and related products. The kit pouches and bookmarks showcase animals that are among the most trafficked creatures globally, including the green sea turtle, African elephant, blue macaw, gorilla, hammerhead shark, lion, pangolin, and black rhino.
Emirates' new wildlife-themed amenity kit pouches are not only eye-catching but also eco-friendly. They are crafted from washable kraft paper, making them reusable, and the animal artwork is printed using non-toxic soy-based ink. Inside, you'll find a set of travel essentials designed for durability and sustainability, with a focus on reducing the use of new plastic materials. For instance, the toothbrush combines wheat straw and plastic, while the socks and eyeshades are created from recycled plastic, specifically rPET (recycled polyethene terephthalate). Responding to popular requests from customers, Emirates is also reintroducing earplugs into the amenity kits by the end of the year.
On this, David Fein, Co-Chair of United for Wildlife, said, “The illegal wildlife trade is international organised crime that is driving many iconic species around the world towards extinction at an alarming rate. Airlines and other transport operators have a huge role to play in disrupting the traffickers’ supply chains. Emirates have consistently demonstrated leadership and commitment in tackling this global threat. We are delighted to see the new amenity kits from Emirates now onboard and hope that passengers find them informative and inspiring.”
Emirates is deeply engaged in combating the illegal trade and exploitation of wildlife and is a member of the United for Wildlife Transport Taskforce. In June 2023, Emirates further solidified its dedication to environmentally responsible actions by successfully attaining both the IATA Environmental Assessment (IEnvA) Stage One certification and the IEnvA Illegal Wildlife Trade module certification.
