Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has completed a series of traffic flow enhancements at the Al Qiyadah Intersection, cutting peak waiting times for motorists by up to 15%. The infrastructure project directly targets daily congestion along Al Ittihad Road, a vital transport corridor linking Dubai and Sharjah, as well as surrounding Deira thoroughfares.
The project introduced a new dedicated left-turn lane from Al Ittihad Road onto Abu Hail Street heading towards Salah Al Din Street.
RTA engineers created the extra lane by reallocating space from existing parallel parking bays and sections of the central median, significantly increasing the junction’s operational capacity.
To support the extra lane, traffic signal timings were recalibrated to better manage vehicle queues. The works also involved road resurfacing, pavement rehabilitation, and the installation of new concrete safety barriers. Additionally, the RTA created extra parking spaces and installed new lighting poles along Abu Hail Street to improve overall local infrastructure.
The improvements provide relief to residents and daily commuters travelling across Deira, easing traffic access to key arterial routes, including Abu Hail Street, Salah Al Din Street, and Al Quds Street.
