Emirati astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi is set to enter his final month in space, aboard the International Space Station (ISS), with the exact return date to Earth yet to be confirmed.
The first long-duration Arab space mission was launched on Thursday, 2 March at the Launch Complex 39A at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida, and docked at the ISS on Friday, 3 March.
Crew-6 is led by Sultan Al Neyadi and includes astronaut Stephen Bowen, Spacecraft Commander at NASA, astronaut Warren Hoburg, Pilot at NASA, and cosmonaut Andrey Fedyaev, Mission Specialist at Roscosmos. The Emirati astronaut along with the crew, have carried out various science experiments.
While in space, Sultan Al Neyadi accomplished many feats including going on a spacewalk outside the ISS on Friday, 28 April. The UAE achieved a huge milestone as the 10th country in the world for an astronaut to go on a spacewalk.
Sultan Al Neyadi also participated in the Dreams Experiment onboard the ISS, where the Emirati astronaut was required to wear a sleep headband equipped with a sensor, that tracks sleep-related data, such as sleep cycle durations and heart rate variations.
Over the past months, Sultan Al Neyadi has also shared multiple images of what the UAE looks like from space.
Sultan Al Neyadi is the second Emirati astronaut to venture into space, after Hazza Al Mansouri spend eight days onboard the ISS in 2019.
