The Department of Culture and Tourism in Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) has found new archaeological sites and artefacts in Al Ain in Abu Dhabi.

The discoveries trace back to the Iron Age and the Pre - Islamic periods, covering a period of around 1,900 years, from 1300 Before Common Era (BCE) to 600 Common Era (CE).

While upgrading the roads in the Kuwaitat area in Al Ain, a cemetery with around 20 graves was found from the Late Pre - Islamic period between 300 BCE to 300 CE. Bronze bowls, glass and alabaster vessels and iron weapons from arrows, spears and swords were also found.

Deep underground water channels were also discovered near the Al Ain Oasis.

In the Al Khrais area in Al Ain, an Iron Age cemetery with a stone tomb and around 35 graves were found.

Around 50 deep underground water channels, tracing back to the Iron Age were found, linking to traditional agriculture systems used during the time period.

Soil samples were taken from the sites, which on assessment, will provide more information on the environment and crops sown during the time periods.
