Abu Dhabi has unveiled the master plan for Hudayriyat Island, covering over 51 million square metres, equivalent to 53.8% of Abu Dhabi Island.
Hudayriyat Island is located on the shores of Abu Dhabi, across from Al Bateen Beach in Abu Dhabi. Similar to Reem Island and Saadiyat Island, Hudayriyat Island is home to expansive sea views and leisure facilities.
A sustainable living environment will be available for residents and visitors, through high-end residential communities with elevated positioning on and surrounding two hill communities. The area will also offer views of Abu Dhabi city and the waterfront.
The master plan will also add 53.5 kilometres of coastline to the city’s landscape, including 16 kilometres of beaches.
Currently, the island offers a seaside getaway to residents and tourists alike, with additional plans to add more leisure, sports and commerce facilities like Surf Abu Dhabi and Velodrome Abu Dhabi.
Set to open by the end of 2023, Surf Abu Dhabi will feature the biggest artificial wave facility in the world. Home to the longest ride, biggest barrel and largest manmade wave pool in the world, the facility will create a hub for surfing fanatics.
Velodrome Abu Dhabi will launch in 2025, and have the first Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) Category 1 indoor cycling track in the UAE, suitable for international championships. Set to solidify Abu Dhabi as the first bike city in the UAE, the venue will have a rooftop track, connected to the ground via a 600-meter cycling ramp winding around the outer walls. Cyclists of all levels will be able to enjoy the facility.
Phase one of the master plan is expected to begin within the next 18 months.
