Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched its 'Zero-Emissions Public Transportation in Dubai 2050' strategy, which aims to reach zero emissions on its facilities by 2050.
The strategy will target three areas, public transportation, buildings and related facilities, and waste management, and will mitigate climate change and minimise its carbon footprint.
By 2030, 10% of public transport buses, 30% of taxis and limousines and 10% of DTC's school buses will be converted into electric and hydrogen-powered vehicles, and will increase to 100% by 2040 for taxis and limousines, and by 2050 for public transport buses and DTC's school buses.
Additionally, all RTA buildings will be fitted with solar cell systems by 2025.
By 2030, all waste management will be reused and recycled and will not be put into landfills.
