The competition was held at different schools around the UAE and aimed to collect used batteries.

Over 160 schools participated with 2,000 kilograms of used batteries collected.

Held in partnership with Duracell, the competition encourages users to recycle batteries rather than throwing them away and it ending up in landfills.

The used batteries were collected by placing them in dedicated bins.

India International School Sharjah won first place with 501 kilograms of batteries collected.

In second place was Gulf Asian English School Sharjah with 260.6 kilograms collected and Al Qarayen KG Sharjah in third place with 155 kilograms.

Fahad Shehail, Group Chief Operating Officer at BEEAH said, “We firmly believe that sustainability requires collective action, and though BEEAH Education, we take pride in involving the community in driving the transition to a sustainable, zero-waste future. The Great Battery Challenge has nurtured recycling habits among students, while addressing the growing issue of battery waste in the UAE. We are proud to work closely with like-minded organisations, like Duracell, to encourage the next generation of environmental leaders and enable a better future for all.”
