The UAE jiu-jitsu national team delivered a stellar performance on the second day of the World Games Chengdu 2025, winning three medals against some of the world’s best competitors.
Saeed Al Kubaisi captured gold in the under-85kg category, overcoming strong opponents from Portugal, South Korea, and Saudi Arabia. In the under-77kg division, Mehdi Al Awlaki battled through to claim silver, while Mohammed Al Suwaidi earned another silver in the under-69kg category.
The 12th edition of the World Games, held in Chengdu, China, brings together nearly 5,000 athletes from 118 countries to compete in 34 sports, serving as a global stage for disciplines not yet in the Olympics.
Commenting on the achievement, gold medallist Saeed Al Kubaisi said, “I entered the championship confident in my ability to win gold, as it’s the natural result of the hard work and intensive training we’ve put in over recent months. I want to thank the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation for the support they have given us, helping us reach this stage and make our mark at a global event of this scale”.
His Excellency Mohamed Salem Al Dhaheri, Vice Chairman of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, praised the athletes’ determination, noting that their success reflects the sport’s rapid growth in the UAE and the Federation’s commitment to preparing its champions for the highest levels of competition.
