UAE Expands Summer Efforts To Protect Outdoor Workers

WAM / X

The UAE is witnessing a wave of humanitarian initiatives this summer aimed at shielding outdoor workers from heat stress, reflecting the nation’s deep-rooted values of compassion and worker welfare.

The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) has set up over 10,000 air-conditioned rest areas across the country for delivery workers during the midday break, in collaboration with government bodies and the private sector.

In Abu Dhabi, the General Women’s Union continues its 'Suqia, Fatima bint Mubarak' campaign through summer months, providing water, juices, dates, umbrellas and other protection to thousands of workers. Abu Dhabi Police, in partnership with First Abu Dhabi Bank, has also distributed water, sunglasses and sunscreen to construction workers in Al Ain.

In Dubai, Ferjan Dubai, supported by the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives and in cooperation with Suqia and the UAE Food Bank, has distributed 2 million bottles of cold water, juices and frozen treats to cleaning, construction, delivery and landscaping workers. The drive used refrigerated vehicles, fixed fridges in worker accommodations, and strong volunteer participation.

Additional efforts include the Emirates Red Crescent’s Ajman centre distributing water and juices to over 600 workers in public spaces, while Beit Al Khair Society joined MOHRE’s campaign by providing 550 meals with cold water and juices at various sites.

Together, these initiatives underscore the UAE’s commitment to safeguarding those working under the summer sun while promoting solidarity across society.
