The Dubai Sports Council (DSC) has announced that a variety of sporting events have been organised to run during Expo 2020, as well as the leading sports stars that will be making appearances.
The 16th Dubai International Sports Conference, a Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiative and Dubai Globe Soccer Awards will take place during Expo.
The 11th edition of the MBR Creative Sports Award will see Emirati and Arab winners from the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games being honoured during the ceremony.
The FIDE World Chess Championship 2021 will see Magnus Carlsen battle Ian Nepomniachtchi from 24 November and 16 December. The Hamdan Bin Rashid Masters international chess championship will also be held at the same time as the world championship.
On 19 November, the Expo 2020 Run will take place, where individuals will run through the Expo 2020 districts and around the different pavilions.
On 25 February 2022, international cycling teams and riders of the UCI World Tour will take on Expo 2020 for the Dubai stage of the tour.
Australia will host over 500 events at the Hub and New Zealand will have sports events for five weeks including Les Mills Live fitness sessions.
Croatia's top football stars, Real Madrid’s Luka Modric and Davor Šuker, President of the Croatian Football Federation as well as NBA stars Dario Šaric and Bojan Bogdanovic will meet and greet fans.
The Italy Pavilion will organise fitness classes and workshops and the Hungary Pavilion will host a teqball tournament, a new ball-based sport.
The Nigeria Pavilion will feature players including Jay-Jay Okocha, Nwankwo Kanu and Mikel John Obi, as well as two-time unified world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua of the United Kingdom.
The Senegal Pavilion will host events to promote the Dakar 2026 Summer Youth Olympic Games, the first International Olympic Committee event to be held in Africa and the first in a Muslim-majority country.
Additionally, over 30 international sports events will be held during Expo 2020 including the men’s and women’s Rugby World Cup qualifiers in October and November, T20 World Cup, the European Tour’s Race to Dubai finale and the DP World Tour Championship.
