Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in a council meeting discussed the strides it has made in safeguarding the public transport sector amid the pandemic by providing a safe method of transport with all precautionary measures taken.
His Excellency Mattar Mohammed Al Tayer, Director-General, Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority said, “The positive indicators and precautionary measures that RTA had implemented reflect the restoration of riders confidence in the level of safety and security of public transport means. In fact, the safety of public transport riders is a top priority to Dubai and RTA. Our teams are continuously monitoring the pandemic developments and reviewing the protective measures periodically to ensure that measures are relevant and effective, besides coordinating with the concerned committees and parties in Dubai Government.”
The RTA additionally plans to make public transport the preferred method of commute by bringing 55% of the population within 800 metres from metro stations and by enhancing the district links by constructing cycling tracks.
Along with the Dubai Police, trial runs on the E-Scooter in five districts in Dubai will also take place.
The future plans are in line with the 2040 Urban Master Plan unveiled in March by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
