A new centre will regulate organ transplantations and donations, as well as the preservation of human tissues in the UAE.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, approved a decision to establish The National Centre for Regulating the Transfer and Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues.
Operating under the UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP), this will be the fourth licensed organ transplant centre in the country.
The decision aims to strengthen medical and social care for organ donation and transplantation in accordance with highest international standards and ethics of medical practice, reported state news agency WAM.
There has been an increase in organ transplants and donations since a new law approved deceased donor transplants in March 2018.
According to the results of a study conducted in 2018, nearly 70 percent of UAE residents said they would donate their organs in the event of their death.
Health officials have revealed plans for another organ transplant centre in Sharjah, which will operate in partnership with Mohammed Bin Rashid University Of Medicine and Health Sciences in Dubai.
