Dubai International Airport (DXB) is one of the busiest airports in the world, used frequently by those living in the UAE, as well as the constantly increasing number of tourists coming to Dubai and millions more passengers who fly with Emirates an gat connecting flights at the hub airport. What ever the reason the reason for using DXB, the number of passengers are constantly increasing and it is estimated that more than 16 million people are set to fly in and out of Dubai in the coming weeks, with the start of the busy summer period being this weekend.
So, those who are packing suitcases can make their trip to the airport much easier if they follow these bits of advice:
- Check which airport and terminal you are departing from and arriving into at www.dubaiairports.ae or use the Dubai Airports’ smartphone app
- Arrive early - it’s best to leave a minimum of three hours for check-in and passport control
- Leave extra time for your journey to the airport as the roads can be very busy
- Check with your airline in advance for information on your baggage allowance.
- Packing liquids, aerosols and gels in your carry on? Make sure they are in a clear re-sealable plastic bag and no more than 100 millilitres in volume
- Beat the queues by checking-in online and using quick-baggage drop counters
- Remember to put anything metal – watch, jewellery, mobile phone, coins, belt – into your hand luggage well before you arrive at the X-ray machine
- Use your Emirates ID or eligible passport to speed through the airport’s Smart Gates
However, the constantly busy Dubai Airports has plenty of practice in ensuring crowds does not equal chaos. From stepping out of the taxi to boarding the plane, there will be plenty of staff available to help passengers. Airport Operations Control Centre will use “advanced operations monitoring systems” to keep an eye on the flow of customers, bags and other services to anticipate pinch points and interruptions.
