Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced the renaming of GGICO Metro Station on the Red Line to Al Garhoud Station, effective Monday, 14 April.
Located between City Centre Deira and Airport Terminal 1 stations, the GGICO station was originally named after Gulf General Investment Company, a well-known public shareholding company. The new name reflects its geographical location in Al Garhoud, a prominent residential and commercial area near Dubai International Airport.
This marks the second metro station renaming in recent weeks. In March, Al Khail Metro Station was rebranded as Al Fardan Exchange Metro Station. See Connector's full story HERE.
RTA had confirmed that the renaming process is part of a wider update across the Dubai Metro network, which will go on until June this year. Changes include new signage, updated audio announcements, and modifications to smart systems and public transport apps.
