His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council, has announced that the Emirati astronaut, Sultan Al Neyadi, is currently preparing to take his first spacewalk.
The spacewalk will be held on Friday, 28 April and will mark the UAE as the 10th country in the world to undertake extravehicular activity, while onboard the International Space Station (ISS).
A spacewalk takes place when an astronaut leaves a vehicle, while in space. However, it is now done outside the ISS.
The time taken on a spacewalk depends on the job the astronaut is required to complete.
Alexei Leonov was the first person to spacewalk in 1965 and it lasted 10 minutes.
