UAE Flag Day is celebrated on 3 November.
Celebrated around a month before UAE National Day on 2 December, here is a look at the meaning behind the festivities.
The day is recognised throughout the country but is not a public holiday.
To celebrate, the national anthem is sung, and the flag is hoisted at buildings in the UAE.
First celebrated in 2013, the day was introduced by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to celebrate His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, becoming the President of the UAE on 3 November 2004.
Every year at 11am, the flag is raised as a symbol of pride for the country.
On 2 December 1971, the flag was raised for the first time.
The flag was created by Abdullah Al Maainah, who was 14 years old when it was designed.
Out of 1,030 entries, his design of the flag was selected after a competition was placed in the Al Ittihad newspaper.
The colours of the flag are red, green, black and white.
Red symbolises braveness and courage, green stands for fertility and hope, white is for peace, and black symbolises courage and power.
