The UAE Ministry of Interior (MoI) has announced a major incentive for motorists who commit to road safety on 25 August, the first day of the new school year when increased traffic is expected during the back-to-school rush.

As part of its annual ‘Accident-Free Day’ initiative, drivers are encouraged to sign an online pledge, promising to follow all traffic rules, from wearing seat belts to respecting speed limits and giving way to emergency vehicles.

Those who sign up and drive safely on that day will see four black points deducted from their traffic record, which will come into effect between 26 August and 15 September, without any need to visit service centres. You can sign up and take your pledge through MoI's official website.

Black points are penalties imposed on drivers for breaches of traffic regulations, with the number of points increasing depending on the severity of offence.

The campaign also ties in with the ‘A Safe School Year’ campaign, aimed at protecting students and raising awareness about safe behaviour on the roads as schools reopen. Authorities stress that safe driving not only prevents accidents but also saves lives and protects the community.
