The third phase of the trials of the tram driver monitoring system, which uses artificial intelligence technology to ensure passenger safety, has been implemented.
Held by Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in partnership with Keolis-MHI and VirtuE Therapy and Research, the service uses a smart device and an armband to monitor the driver.
The collected data is used to create a comprehensive understanding and profile of the driver.
The system detects the heart rate, speech pattern, reaction times and driving style, unsafe patterns, deviations and gestures, based on driver's reactions.
By predicting the behavioural patterns of the driver, the system is set to reduce human error accidents and will trigger a response to prevent incidents, accidents and near-misses.
Wallace Weatherill, Managing Director of Keolis-MHI, Dubai Metro and Tram Operator said, "We are living in a digital era, and we will continue to advance as more artificial intelligence and deep learning applications are being used in everyday processes."
