The Green Planet, a tropical biodome home to over 3,000 plants and animals, has welcomed a new addition.

The first flying foxes in the Middle East have made their way to the biodome.

Flying foxes are one of the biggest bat species in the world that are capable of sustained flight.

Known to be highly social, the flying foxes will be able to fly freely around the enclosed biodome.

The megabats help in keeping native forests healthy by dispersing seeds and pollinating flowering plants.

According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), the species are nearly threatened.

In the wild, they have an average of 15 years and can live up to 30 years with human care and is a part of The Green Planet’s conservation efforts to protect the species.
