His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai has announced that Expo City Dubai will open this year in October.
Expo City Dubai will open a year after Expo 2020 Dubai opened its doors in 2021 to the public for six months, bringing together over 192 countries from around the world.
The new city will be a hub for business and innovation, driven by sustainability, innovation, education and entertainment.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed said, "Brothers and Sisters, after the historical success of Expo 2020 Dubai, which was visited by more than 24 million visitors, and which left an indelible mark in the 170-year history of World Expositions, today we announce the transformation of the exhibition site into Expo City Dubai, a city that represents the most beautiful ambitions of Dubai."
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed further added, "Expo City Dubai will be an environmentally-friendly city, one friendly to families, to the economy, and to future generations. A city connected to a port and two airports, and also to beautiful memories in the hearts and minds of millions of people. A city in which the magic of Expo will live on: Al Wasl will continue to shine, the waterfall will continue to delight, and the UAE, Alif and Terra pavilions will continue to fascinate visitors of all ages."
Some of the pavilions from Expo 2020 Dubai will be reworked including Egypt, Saudi Arabia, India, Australia and more.
Expo City Dubai will also feature a new museum at the Opportunity pavilion, an exhibition centre and will be the headquarters of many companies.
The Al Wasl Plaza, the Garden in the Sky and the Water feature, the three iconic attractions at the site, will remain.
The city will be accessible to all via the Dubai Metro.
