Road Tolls In Abu Dhabi To Undergo Changes

Abu Dhabi Media Office

From 1 September, motorists in Abu Dhabi will face longer evening toll hours and no more daily or monthly toll caps on private vehicles. The Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) says the move is designed to ease congestion and keep traffic flowing more smoothly during peak periods.

The evening toll period will now run from 3pm to 7pm, instead of the previous 5pm to 7pm window. Morning hours remain the same, from 7am to 9am, Monday through Saturday. Toll charges will still not apply on Sundays and official public holidays.

The new amendments also remove the current daily and monthly toll caps for private vehicles. There will no longer be a maximum limit on the toll charges collected per vehicle each day, which was previously Dhs 16 daily. The monthly limit on the maximum toll charged will also be removed, which used to be Dhs 200 for the first registered vehicle, Dhs 150 for the second and Dhs 100 for additional vehicles.

This means that frequent commuters may see higher total charges depending on their travel patterns. A fee of Dhs 4 will continue to be applied each time a vehicle passes through a toll gate in the emirate.

Exemptions remain for eligible groups such as People of Determination, low-income families, senior citizens and retirees.
