Abu Dhabi has seen an increase in reading habits to 55% in 2022, up from from 38% three years ago.
The statistics are based on a Reading Opinion Poll carried out by the Statistics Centre in Abu Dhabi, which covers Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Al Dhafra.
79% of the population have reported preferring reading online with 92% saying that the Abu Dhabi government has played a big role in instilling a reading culture.
The average number of reading hours for work reached 20 hours per month, with the average leisure reading time reaching 25 hours per month.
Nine out of ten people find that the best place to read is at home.
Additionally, 61% of people do not read regularly due to lack of time, 51% cannot read due to work stress and 22% find that they do not have a suitable atmosphere to read.
19% of people also do not consider reading as their hobby and 10% said that their preferred reading materials are not available.
