The Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) along with Abu Dhabi Police has announced regulations for bicycles, electric bikes and other micro-mobility devices.
According to the new regulations, only one rider can ride a bicycle, scooter or bike and must use the dedicated bicycle lanes.
Side roads can be used to cycle on if dedicated lanes are not available in the area, with a speed limit of 20 km/h followed and users must stay on the far right-hand side of the road.
All riders need to wear protective gear at all times with a helmet worn at all times and reflective clothing worn in the night.
Bicycles must be parked in the designated areas and should not be chained to traffic posts or street light poles.
Pedestrians must be given priority and speed should be reduced at intersections and crossroads.
Rental companies can now operate after receiving an official permit from the ITC and regular checks must be carried out on the bicycles.
All bicycles rented need to be fitted with a monitoring or tracking device and a phone number should be made available in case of an emergency.
