The Executive Council of Dubai has announced a policy to reduce the use of single-use plastic bags.
From 1 July 2022, a tariff of 25 fils will be introduced for the use of plastic bags.
In two years, a complete ban on plastic bags will be imposed.
The initiative aims at being more environmentally friendly as plastic bags take over 400 years to decompose and is also very harmful to the environment, animals and marine life.
The change will be taken in all stores in Dubai including restaurants, pharmacies and e-commerce delivery services.
