The Public Prosecution has reminded the public that individuals will face penalties for spreading fake news and rumours.

Individuals that publish or circulate false news on the internet can be imprisoned for one year as well as fine Dhs 100,000.

For publishing fake news that creates panic or stirs up public opinion, the individuals will face two years of imprisonment and Dhs 200,000.
