Abu Dhabi Emergency, Crisis and Disasters Committee has announced that in an effort to ensure the low rates of infections, new protocols will be in place to enter Abu Dhabi from other emirates.
The change will take into effect on Sunday, 19 December.
EDE scanners will be used to detect if someone is positive for the virus.
The scanner will be held in front of the person for a few seconds and through the alterations in the electromagnetic waves, will detect if they are potentially negative or positive.
The scanner will not store personal information.
Individuals that potentially could be positive, will have to take a free antigen test at one of the on-site testing centres, with results given within 20 minutes.
If the antigen comes back positive, individuals from Abu Dhabi will be fitted with a wristband and will be placed under home quarantine.
If the individual does not reside in Abu Dhabi, they will have to go back to the emirate they travelled from and have to inform local health authorities of the result.
All individuals need to have a valid green pass on their Al Hosn App to enter public spaces and events and will still have to undergo an EDE scan.
