The third issue of the Dhs 50 note has been launched.
The Dhs 50 note is in line with the UAE's 50th celebrations and will honour Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the late Founding Father of the UAE, and the first generation of rulers for their role in uniting the emirates.
The new note on the front has a portrait of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan on the right, the memorial picture of the founding fathers after signing the union agreement in the centre and a picture of Wahat Al Karama, the memorial to the martyrs of the Emirates, on the left.
On the back are a picture of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan signing the union agreement and a picture of Etihad Museum, where the establishment of the union was witnessed and the UAE flag was raised for the first time.
The new note is the first of its kind to be printed using polymer and is more durable and sustainable than traditional cotton paper banknotes, lasting twice as longer or more when in circulation.
The polymer notes can also be recycled and will be more environmentally friendly.
The note will feature a Braille script which will help individuals that are visually impaired identify the monetary value of the note.
To help avoid counterfeiting, additional security features have also been added.
The current Dhs 50 note will remain in circulation and is valid with the new note available at the Central Bank branches and ATMs in the near future.
The new note was launched at a special ceremony attended by the leadership of the UAE.
His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Presidential Affairs and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Central Bank of the UAE said, "We see in this issuance the new phase that UAE will enter, and a renewed pledge to continue its growth path. The occasion also allowed us to express our appreciation and gratitude to our founding fathers by issuing a new Dhs 50 banknote to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the establishment of the UAE."
