The United Kingdom government has announced that the UAE will come off the UK red list and will be moved to the UK amber list, meaning that those travelling from the UAE to the UK will not have to spend the mandatory 10 days in hotel quarantine.
The change of status comes into effect from Sunday 8 August.
This is welcome news for the hundreds of thousands of UK citizens who are resident in the UAE and have not been able to travel to the UK without restrictions or the need to quarantine since 29 January this year when travel between the two countries was initially banned.
Those travelling from the UAE to the UK will still need to quarantine in the place they are staying for 10 days and take a Covid-19 test on or before day 2, and on or after day 8, as only those individuals who are fully vaccinated with approved vaccines administered in the UK, European Union and United States of America do not need to quarantine, provided they have a negative Covid-19 test taken within 48 hours of their of arrival.
The announcement was made by the UK Government Transport Minister Grant Shapps, who also announced that Bahrain, India and Qatar would all be removed from the red list and moved to the amber list.
