Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has launched an EV Green Charger that can help charge a range of electric cars in Dubai.
The initiative will help support sustainable modes of transport as a part of the Dubai Green Mobility Strategy 2030, which targets reducing carbon emissions among transportation.
The green charger will provide free charging till 31 December to all non-commercial electric vehicles in Dubai. Government and Semi-Government organisations will pay 29 fils for every kilowatt-hour.
300 charging stations have already been installed across the city as well as three stations in Hatta.
Two charging stations are currently present at the Expo 2020 site with 15 more charging stations being placed across the Opportunity, Sustainability and Mobility pavilions.
Users can now locate the charging stations via the DEWA website or smart app or through applications including, Google Maps, Apple Maps, Foursquare, Factual, What3Words, 2GIS, Careem, Plugshare, Electromaps, Yellowmaps and car navigation maps like TomTom and Here Maps.
Customers can charge their cars by scanning the QR code at the station on DEWA's smart app or can use their EV Green Chager card.
In February, there were 8,489 registered electric cars in Dubai with 2,473 hybrid cars a part of governmental organisations. Additional electric cars will be added to the government fleet in the future.
