Dubai will be the first city anywhere in the world, outside of the United States of America, to operate the new self-driving cars created by Cruise, with 4,000 vehicles on the roads in less than 10 years.
The initiative of introducing self-driving cars is in line with His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Crown Prince and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai's vision to make Dubai the best city to live and work in.
His Highness Sheikh Hamdan also aims to convert 25% of the cars in Dubai to self-driving vehicles by 2030.
Some self-driving cars will be available by as soon as 2023, with over 4,000 of the cars operating by 2030.
The self-driving cars by Cruise have been known to help reduce pollution by 12% and is a more sustainable car alternative.
The cars will also help reduce transportation costs by Dhs 900 million annually.
