Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched an initiative using drones to carry out field inspections for heavy trucks, where drones have been used for inspections since 2020.
Drones using artificial intelligence check the heavy trucks to ensure their smooth functioning.
The drones are also used to detect any damage done to the truck and help assess areas that were previously hard to reach by the inspectors usually checking the trucks.
Nine RTA officials have been accredited by the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and now operate the drones.
Over 300 inspections were conducted in 2020, recording 580 flying minutes and 48 offences were reported.
