An Arab actress, identified only by her initials “M.H”, has been arrested by Dubai Police for organising birthday parties at two restaurants and posting videos of the parties on Snapchat showing guests not adhering to COVID-19 safety rules.
The guests could be seen without face masks and not complying with physical distancing regulations.
Brigadier Jamal Salem Al Jallaf, Director of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at the Dubai Police, confirmed the arrest.
"We call on all tourism companies, local businesses and community members to support efforts to limit the spread of Covid-19, maintain social distancing, and refrain from organising or attending crowded events that could contribute to spreading the virus," Brigadier Al Jallaf said.
The arrest comes a day after eight people were detained for organising wedding ceremonies with guests mingling without wearing face masks, as confirmed by the Emergency and Crisis Prosecution Office (ECPO) at the Federal Public Prosecution.
The guests were not first-degree relatives which is one of several regulations that govern social gatherings.
Organising gatherings and celebrations, in a public or private place, is punishable with a fine of AED 10,000.
