The fortunes of an Indian expat, who works as a carpenter in the UAE on a monthly salary of Dhs 1,900, changed overnight after his name popped up in a lucky draw winning a luxury sports car, a McLaren 570S Spider, the cost of which is estimated to start at approximately Dhs 700,000.
The draw was carried out by a telecoms company for customers with expired IDs, who were asked to renew their sim card registration to avoid discontinuation of services.
The winner, Balvir Singh, 31, sold the car for Dhs 600,000 with the help of a broker, who charged him Dhs 25,000 commission, and remitted the money back home a small village in Punjab, India. He credited his win to his seven month old son who he calls his lucky charm.
He now plans to take a few months break to spend time with his father, wife and sons.
Balvir said he knows the value of hard earned money and he will not quit working after this huge win.
