Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is experimenting with the use of orange robots in cleaning Dubai Metro Stations as part of efforts to support the UAE Artificial Intelligence strategy.
The process is under trial at a few metro stations, the names of which have not been revealed yet, and then the plan is the robots will be rolled out across the network.
Designed with international standards, the robots will reduce the amount of water used in cleaning. The robots can very much work on their own, with the only human effort needed is to fill up their 90-litre tank.
Compact in size, the robots measure 128 cm high and 135 cm wide, and are fixed with sensors to detect a barrier and human movement on the station causing no inconvenience to visitors.
The robots can be programmed to clean floors with more complex designs.
“The use of robots in cleaning Dubai Metro stations is an experimental step considered the first of its kind worldwide in using such technology to clean metro stations. Once the success of the trial is verified, the technology will be deployed in other stations,” said Mohammed Hasan Al Amiri, Director of Rail Maintenance at the RTA.
