Pope Francis, the head of Catholic Church is set to begin his historic visit to the GCC today with his arrival in the UAE.
Referred to as an important event marking the UAE’s 'Year of Tolerance', the visit of the Pope to the UAE represents the country’s values of interfaith and peaceful co-existence.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai took to Twitter to welcome Pope Francis.
In a statement issued on his official Twitter handle @HHShkMohd, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed said, “We welcome Pope Francis to the UAE. This historic visit will deepen the values of tolerance, understanding and interfaith dialogue. We are bound by our humanity, our common values and belief in the future of humankind. Welcome to the UAE in this, our year of tolerance “
