Abu Dhabi Police have advised residents to be extra cautious of social media networking site frauds. In an Instagram post, authorities warned users about the increasing numbers of scams on social media platforms and how fraudsters trick residents into sharing personal information such as usernames, passwords and credit card numbers.
The latest scams have revealed that users are being targeted by fake messages that encourage users to share an activation code in order to gain access to their accounts. The bait is usually a news that the user has won a huge sum of prize money. Once lured, the fraudsters ask users to share credit card details to transfer the money into their accounts.
Hence, police have urged residents to keep an eye out for fake messages that are trying to steal user’s confidential information. Further to this, the authorities have also advised to avoid messages that encourage users to click a link.
The users must not fall for any fake messages telling them they have won a prize and should never share any personal information.
