ABU DHABI: According to a new ministerial decision, skilled employees can now work for multiple employers after receiving a nod from Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation.
Under the new ruling, the employers can hire part-time employees from inside and outside the country. This allows workers to enter into multiple part-time contracts with employers without approval of the original or other employers. Naser Bin Thani Al Hameli, Minister of Human Resource and Emiratisation said the new system will enhance the flexibility of the labour market and meet the needs of the employers from the existing labour market and thus reduce dependence on labour being imported from outside the country.
Part-time contracts are defined by less than eight working hours a day or less than 48 hours a week. The employees must receive at least one day off a week. The part-time contracts are limited only to specialised professions who has special scientific, technical or administrative skills. The ministerial fee for the primary employer would range from Dh150 to Dh2,000, while the secondary employer would be required to pay Dh100 (equivalent to fees paid for temporary work permits).
Annual leave, end of service benefits, and other financial obligations in proportion to the number of actual working hours and wages stipulated in the contract will be borne by the primary employers.
