Road and Transport Authority’s 98th open auction for car number plates on Saturday showed the charm for double digit numbers amongst the connoisseurs of special numbers. The plate number W22 was sold for Dhs 2.62 million followed by another two digit number T32 for a price of Dhs1.68 million.
The auction had a total of 80 car numbers up for sale. After double digit numbers, the bidders showed their penchant towards attractive three, four and five digit plates.
The auction, where more than 500 people participated, saw a total riased of Dhs19,918,000
The five digit number T88888 went for Dhs 710,000 and another five digit number R66666 was sold for Dhs 670,000. Three digital number T400 came under hammer for the price of Dhs 500000.
“We are happy to have completed another successful auction and we are satisfied with the results. We are looking forward to offering more interesting plates for the next auction,” said Abdullah Yousuf Al Ali, CEO of RTA’s Licensing Agency.
Participation in the auction requires the bidder to have a traffic file in Dubai.
All participants are required to deposit a cheque of Dhs 25,000 which can be redeemed in case no successful bid is made. The deposit can also be paid by credit cards. An amount of Dhs 120 has to be paid as subscription fees, while five per cent will also be added to bidding amount.
