For a limited time only Abu Dhabi motorists are smiling as their black points are being removed from their licences.
In an announcement, Abu Dhabi Police have said that drivers who have been given black points for minor offences will be given a clean slate before the tough new rules are implemented on 1st July. The clean slate does not extend to serious offences such as driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs, or in a way that endangers the public.
Abu Dhabi Police launched the initiative as part of the #Year of Giving to cancel black points issued to drivers in Abu Dhabi, “except those related to major traffic violations,” it said in a statement. Brigadier Ali Al Dhaheri, director general of police central operations, said the move was a form of positive reinforcement.
This move is part of Abu Dhabi Police's Year of Giving activities and its ongoing programme to promote positivity and road safety and urge drivers to correct their behaviour.
The Year of Giving was declared by President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, which focuses on three major themes: strengthening social responsibility in the private sector, and promoting the spirit of volunteerism.
