Dubai's New VDX Air Taxi Hub Becomes World's First Certified Commercial Vertiport

WAM

The UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has officially certified Dubai’s VDX vertiport, making it the world’s first purpose-built commercial facility approved for electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft operations.

Developed by Advanced Air Mobility infrastructure developer Skyports Infrastructure, in direct partnership with Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), the newly certified VDX hub will serve as the primary station within the emirate's highly anticipated commercial air taxi network. The regulatory approval follows a strict and comprehensive GCAA assessment evaluating physical infrastructure, safety management systems, operational flight procedures, and emergency readiness protocols.

For UAE residents and visitors, the certification brings the reality of traffic-free, aerial urban commuting closer to launch. The completed four-storey facility covers approximately 3,100 square metres, featuring two dedicated landing zones, rapid-charging units engineered specifically for electric aircraft, and high-throughput passenger terminals designed to accommodate up to 170,000 passengers annually.

Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director-General of the GCAA, confirmed that the historic milestone establishes a new international benchmark for sustainable urban transport, and said “The certification of the world’s first purpose-built commercial vertiport is a historic achievement for the UAE and a defining moment for the future of aviation. It reflects the vision of our leadership, the maturity of our regulatory system and our national capability to enable innovation while maintaining the highest levels of safety. The UAE is not only preparing for the future of aviation; it is actively shaping it and establishing new international benchmarks for Advanced Air Mobility.”

Skyports Infrastructure is currently developing three additional vertiports across Dubai to complete the initial flight network phase, aligning with the "We the UAE 2031" vision and the Dubai Economic Agenda (D33).
