The UAE Children’s Digital Wellbeing Pact, the first of its kind in the region, was officially signed during the World Governments Summit 2025 in Dubai.
Led by His Highness Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of the Interior and Chairman of the Digital Wellbeing Council and Her Excellency Sana bint Mohammed Suhail, Minister of Family and Director-General of Abu Dhabi Early Childhood Authority and also joined by His Excellency Omar bin Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy and Remote Work Applications, the initiative aims to create a safer digital environment for children, reducing exposure to harmful content and cyberbullying.
A United Effort For Digital Safety
With rising concerns about children’s online safety, the Digital Wellbeing Council and the Abu Dhabi Early Childhood Authority spearheaded the pact, alongside strategic partners.
Leading social media and tech platforms have also committed to the pact, including Snapchat (lead partner), Meta, Google, TikTok, X, Samsung and others. The agreement focusses on:
-
Reducing harmful content and cyber threats.
-
Enhancing privacy protections for children’s data.
-
Developing digital literacy programs for parents and children.
-
Implementing age-verification tools for safer browsing.
Building A Safe Digital Future
The pact will introduce global best practices to ensure children’s well-being online, while also promoting education, transparency and collaboration among key stakeholders. With clear reporting mechanisms and stronger content monitoring, the UAE aims to set global standards in digital safety.
