Starting today, 31 January, Salik’s variable toll pricing system officially comes into effect, bringing a new dynamic pricing model aimed at optimising traffic flow and enhancing road efficiency. The move was first announced last year.
With the new structure, Salik users will pay different toll rates depending on the time of day, with peak-hour crossings now costing Dhs 6, off-peak crossings at Dhs 4, and no charge during late-night hours.
New Salik Toll Rates Breakdown
The variable pricing applies every day of the year, except during Ramadan, when the schedule is slightly modified.
Regular Days (Excluding Ramadan)
- Peak Hours (6.00am – 10.00am and 4.00pm – 8.00pm): Dhs 6 per crossing.
- Off-Peak Hours (10.00am – 4.00 PM and 8.00 PM – 1.00am): Dhs 4 per crossing.
- Late Night (1.00am – 6.00am): No charge.
- Sundays (excluding public holidays and events): Dhs 4 per crossing, including peak hours.
Ramadan Schedule
- Peak Hours (9.00am – 5.00pm): Dhs 6 per crossing.
- Off-Peak Hours (7.00am – 9.00am and 5.00pm – 2.00am): Dhs 4 per crossing.
- Late Night (2.00am – 7.00pm): No charge.
Key Considerations for Motorists
- No double charge: Vehicles passing through Al Safa North and South or Al Mamzar North and South toll gates in one direction within one hour will only be charged once.
- No changes to payment methods: The Salik system remains fully automated and cashless, with charges deducted from the user’s prepaid balance.
What This Means for Drivers
The new toll structure is expected to help ease congestion during peak hours by encouraging off-peak travel. Regular commuters should plan their routes and travel times accordingly, to take advantage of lower toll rates where possible.
